We can't believe we have just under 2 weeks to go until the summer holidays. Time has really flown.
It was great to see so many of you at the summer fair. Thank you for making this event such a success.
Last week the children enjoyed meeting their new teachers and finding out what life will be like in their new classes in September.
The children have been working hard on a dance on the theme of the Amazon River. We look forward to sharing this with you on Tuesday morning.
In the afternoon we also have our last rugby session. The children have really enjoyed learning new skills from the rugby coaches and have started to play some small games of tag rugby.
The highlight of the week will be the trip to Blackpool Zoo to find out more about the Rain forest habitat. Please ensure that your child has all the required items for the day to cater for the unpredictable weather conditions eg waterproof coat, sun hat, water bottle, packed lunch.
What a great week we have ahead.

Sport's Day
The weeks are passing so quickly and before we know it the summer holidays will be here. There's lots going on in school over the forthcoming weeks.
Well done to all the children in Year 1 who completed the phonics screen last week. They approached it with a very mature attitude and all the teachers are proud of each child. We will inform you of the result in your child's end of year report.
We look forward to Sport's Day tomorrow. Please remember that the children need to come in their PE kit wearing the a coloured T shirt to match their team-
Morpurgo- red
Wilson- blue
Dahl- yellow
Blade- green.
It is also important that the children wear a sun hat and have a freshly filled water bottle.
Please return P.E kits the following day as all the children will have a rugby training session on Tuesday afternoon.
We are really looking forward to the trip to Blackpool Zoo to further our understanding of the Rain forest environment. Response to the trip has been very good so far. Don't forget to send in the permission slip and money.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Sports Day

World Cup!
The children are really enjoying the new topic based on the World Cup host nation of Brazil. We are now following the progress of the teams within the world cup and it is really helping the children gain a wider understanding of the continents within the world. The children are developing their map skills by using map, atlases and globes.
The children really enjoyed their first rugby session last week and hopefully we will see their rugby skills develop over the forthcoming weeks.
This week we will be preparing for Sport's Day. You should have received a letter stating the team and colour that your child will be competing for.
As the weather is really heating up please remember to send your child in with a water bottle and sun hat. With so many sporting events happening in school they really are needed.
Thank you for your continued support

Welcome Back!
Wow! what an exciting and busy final half term we have ahead of us in Key Stage 1.
This week the children will begin the new topic of 'Rainforest Magic'. To celebrate the World Cup the children will be finding out about it's host nation Brazil. They will be developing their geography skills by finding out about the country of Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest.
We have lots of sporting opportunities ahead of us this half term. In addition to the weekly P.E lesson the children will receive dance and rugby coaching. Please ensure that your child has the required P.E kit in school each day and a water bottle. A sun hat would also be great as we hope to be outside a lot, taking advantage of the lovely sunshine!
Also this half term each Key Stage 1 class will be working with a textile artist to produce some work to displayed within school.
Although we have lots of exciting events happening we will be continuing to develop the children's key skills. Please continue to read daily with your children.
Let's hope the lovely weather continues.

The children and staff had a fantastic day at the Liverpool Museum. The children didn't want to leave and some were disappointed that we didn't get chance to visit every area of the museum. It was great to see the children so interested and enthusiastic about their learning. All the children seem to be experts on dinosaurs now. Make sure you ask them what they know about Coprolite?
This week we will conclude the 'Walking with Dinosaurs' topic. We feel this has been our most successful topic so far this year.
We wish all families a restful break- fingers crossed this beautiful weather will continue.

Back into to swing of things!
After a jam packed start to the new term the children have quickly settled back into the routine of the school day.
This week the children will really start to find out lots of facts about dinosaurs to help them to write information texts. In Science the children will be exploring the concept of living, non living and never been alive. This is likely to cause some interesting discussions.
In maths the children will be identifying and investigating the properties of a range of 2D and 3D shapes. It would be helpful if you could continue to identify and discuss these shapes within the home and outdoors.
We are happy to announce that we have arranged a trip to Liverpool World Museum on Tuesday 13th May. Please look out for the permission letter that will be sent out this week. Please send back A.S.A.P to allow your child to take part in this exciting visit, to further their investigative skills in relation to dinosaurs.
We are really looking forward to Golden Assembly on Friday. The children will be told on Monday of a new exciting prize that will make each winner really proud of their achievements. Let's see if all the children can 'Try, Persevere and Succeed' this week at Tyldesley Primary School.
Enjoy the week

The children across Key Stage 1 have been working really hard on improving their writing skills. They have been trying to write descriptively about characters and writing information sentences about nocturnal animals and space. This week we are starting a new initiative called "Super Sentences". Each day your child will write a sentence- aiming to make it the best possible, by the use of punctuation, word choice, use of connectives etc.
As we approach the end of our exciting "Blast Off!" topic the children will be designing and making a rocket, which will be blasted off before we break up for half term. Please send in a clean pop bottle so your child can take part in these exciting lessons.
On Friday afternoon we will join together with all schools in Wigan for the sing up challenge. At 2pm the whole school will be singing a song about Wigan's history. The children have been busy rehearsing the song and it already sounds very impressive.
Don't forget to send in your parents' evening request if you haven't already done so. Appointment times will be sent out on Thursday.
Another busy week ahead.

So Proud
All the teachers were so proud of the Year 1 children who performed at the dance festival last Tuesday at Leigh Sports Village. All the children performed really confidently and it was great to see the progress that the children have made with their dance skills. Although we didn't walk away with a trophy all the children learnt a valuable lesson about the importance of being a good sport. Year 1 will be presenting the dance to the rest of the school in assembly on Monday.
Well done Year 1!
Throughout Key Stage 1 the children are enjoying reading the new Guided reading books that we have just introduced. We are currently in the process of adding some new titles to the home reading scheme. This means your child will not take home a reading book on Monday. Normal service should be resumed on Wednesday. Thank you for your support on this matter.
Don't forget to return your parent's evening reply so we can arrange appointment times.
Many thanks for your continued support.

World Book Day
This week we are celebrating World Book Day at Tyldesley Primary School. Each Key Stage 1 class will be reading Roald Dahl's The Twits and using this to create profiles of the main characters. The children will take part in a Imagin-action session on Monday, which will combine the story with physical activity.
We also look forward to hearing about the famous person that your child admires. This will be used within our history lessons to support work on a very famous person related to our Blast Off topic. We wonder if you can work out who it is yet?
